Small But Meaningful Steps in Solo Aging: Celebrate What You Have Already Done

Planning for life on your own can feel overwhelming. Sometimes your inner voice whispers, “I haven’t done anything yet.” But pause for a moment. There are often many “I have” and “I did” moments already in motion.
Planning isn’t about perfection or speed; it’s about momentum, readiness, and self-trust.
Here are some small, meaningful steps you may have already taken. The kind that often go unnoticed but count more than you realize:
Took out a notebook, pad of paper, or opened a document so it’s ready when you are
Bought folders, binders, or organizing tools you actually like using
Searched online for solo aging, aging alone, or Navigating Solo™ resources
Looked up a solo aging group, discussion group, or community program
Saved an article, website, or podcast to read later
Sent an email or made a call to a professional to ask for more information
Scheduled a consultation — even if it hasn’t happened yet
Purchased a workbook, guide, or planning resource
Jotted down questions you don’t have answers to yet
Talked with someone you trust about planning, even briefly
Every step matters. Every “I have” and “I did” builds momentum.
Looking for more guidance on where to start?
On February 24, we’re introducing the interactive “Where Do I Start?” tool, designed to help solo agers see practical next steps, one small action at a time, without feeling overwhelmed.
Use it to explore ideas, act now, save for later, or set reminders, and celebrate your progress along the way.
The Navigating Solo Network is an online national network and clearinghouse featuring resources specifically for Solo Agers!
